Fiction is an essential part of human life. Man has an inherent demand for recreation to get away, even though for a few minutes, from the humdrum of life. Story telling has been one of the first methods for accomplishing that and above the ages it has grown into the varied types of entertainment we’ve got in the present day world. Entertainment is basically of two types – active and passive. The busy entails physical participation in 1 way or other, while the passive doesn’t. Fiction is essentially a passive entertainment even though the brain plays an important role within it. Fiction constantly involves visualization whether it’s covert or overt. The first type of overt visualization was that the enacting of dramas since the civilizations developed. The development of technology introduced in its modern forms – cinema and television. The covert form is inherent to story telling and reading. It’s an inherent characteristic of the human (or maybe any) mind that a thought is always accompanied by an image. So as soon as one hears or reads a story the brain visualizes the scene as well as the figures; this process continues throughout the story and frequently even after it’s ended.
Character growth can be one of the most important things about science fiction. You want to produce a realistic set of personalities to move your plot along and to do this you want to understand them. But how much do you must know about them before you start writing?

A mind can imagine only what relates in some way to matters already stored inside. Someone that has been outside a distant place in wilderness and has no contact with the world outside cannot envision what metropolitan cities would be like.
Getting back to fiction that the creativity of the writer also must be predicated on his direct or indirect experiences. In this sense fiction relies on reality and to that extent it represents another dimension of truth. Here of course we run into the philosophical difficulty of the precise meaning of reality. There are two diametrically opposite views – materialistic and spiritualistic. According to the former only things that can be perceived through our senses are real, everything else is unreal. The latter maintains that there’s one ultimate fact from which all that we perceive comes out and everything that is perceived is simply an illusion. We again look at a statement by Einstein: “Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a persistent one.” He was obviously referring to the fact of this phenomenal world. The term illusion can have different connotations but generally it means perceiving something rather different from what it really is. So the presence of the thing is a prerequisite for illusion, it isn’t a mental construction. Imagination is purely a mental phenomenon and has nothing to do with whatever actually existent. Thus the relationship between fiction and reality is entirely different from that between reality and illusion. It does take some time to write a complete story for any kind of book.
At a philosophical sense that the incredible world itself could be considered fiction. It is not merely a philosophical point either. We invest a considerable part of our own life in the imagined or fictional world. We muse about the items in long run and also dwell over the past imagining what might have been. The creativity about the future is dependent on our hopes and ambitions and also to some extent it is a positive in the sense we are in a position to mould our future when we sincerely attempt. But musing over the past is a futile exercise because we know for a fact that ‘what might have been’ is only fantasy that never happened. Nevertheless it serves the exact same purpose as fiction from the perspective of entertainment. We amuse ourselves by imagining how life could have been, knowing fully well that it has no reality whatsoever. In a metaphorical sense ago, at the remote past, is fiction. In a particular sense history itself is fiction since it always contains the abstract bias of the author. What we know of Buddha and Jesus today is much more fiction than truth.
